Rwanda’s Lesser-known Tourist Attractions

The Nyamirambo Women’s Center and the Musanze caves are lesser-known among tourists.

Located in Kigali, the Nyamirambo Women’s Center was founded in 2007 with the aim to address gender-based violence, gender inequality, and discrimination. The center organises workshops and classes for women in English, computer, and literacy. The handicrafts are particularly popular with tourists.

Another lesser-known tourist attraction is located in Musanze, the largest district of the northern province of Rwanda. While the Musanze region is famous for the Volcanoes National Park, the Musanze caves belong to the country’s secret places and are often overlooked by tourists. The 2km long caves have been used as shelters during the genocide against the Tutsi and as such hold considerable significance to the country’s historic heritage. Today, they are home to bats.

Rwanda is one of the safest tourist destinations in Africa.
