If Beauty of Rwanda sold one piece of item to each and every one of you, lots of lives in rural Rwanda would be changed. That is what the #OneBasket campaign is all about. We are not asking you to break the bank by purchasing loads of items (feel free to do so if you can afford it) but we ask that you buy at least one item. If everyone did this, the #OneBasket campaign would go a long way. The lives of the women and girls who weave these beautiful items would change forever. Mothers would be able to support their children, buy them clothes, medicine and food among other things. They would also be able to pay dowry for their sons when the time came for them to marry.
Today in Rwanda, genocide survivors, widows are weaving baskets alongside the wives of war criminals, and forging their own path to reconciliation and economic recovery. This is their path to peace. Basket weaving has been one of Rwanda’s greatest craft, and also critical as a community activity now and hundreds of years ago. Each of our weavers is a survivor of the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi – except for the children born after. For the majority of them, weaving is the only form of income they have, hence why we insist on supporting our. #OneBasket campaign. These women and their children are an inspiration! Beauty of Rwanda products are fair trade, which means that the weavers get a fair wage for their work and services. The weavers are more encouraged by this and it makes them work even harder.
Beauty of Rwanda and its #OneBasket campaign is an economic initiative that is here to empower rural women and girls in Rwanda – in order for them to be self-sufficient. With your support, Beauty of Rwanda can impact the women and girls in Rwanda who are marginalised.
